Privacy Policy — Dine & Divide

      The short version: Dine & Divide stores all your data locally on your device. We do not collect personal information, run analytics, or sell data. The only data that ever leaves your device is anonymised receipt text sent to Anthropic for AI parsing — and only when you choose to scan a receipt.
    

1. Who We Are

2. Data We Store on Your Device

All app data — meals, diners, bill items, seat assignments, payments, and settings — is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data never leaves your device except as described in sections 4 and 5 below.

We do not operate servers, databases, or cloud storage for user data. If you delete the app, all data is removed from your device.

3. Permissions We Request

Camera — used only when you tap "Scan Receipt" to photograph a restaurant bill. Photos are processed on-device and are never saved to your photo library or transmitted in their original form.
Location (While Using the App) — used only to find nearby restaurants when you type a restaurant name during meal setup. Your location is passed to Apple's MapKit service to return relevant search results. We do not store or log your location.

4. Anthropic Claude AI (Receipt Parsing)

When you scan a receipt and the app uses AI to parse it, the recognised text extracted from your receipt photo is sent to Anthropic, PBC via their API. This text typically contains item names and prices from a restaurant bill — it does not include your name, payment details, or any other personal information.

Anthropic processes this text to identify bill items and returns a structured list to the app. Their data handling is governed by the Anthropic Privacy Policy.

AI receipt parsing only occurs when you explicitly tap "Scan Receipt." You can also add items manually without any data leaving your device.

5. Apple Services

The app uses the following Apple platform services:

MapKit / MKLocalSearch — restaurant name search. Your search query and approximate location are sent to Apple. Governed by the Apple Privacy Policy.
Vision framework — on-device OCR for reading receipt text. All processing happens on your device; no data is sent to Apple.

6. No Analytics or Tracking

Dine & Divide does not use any analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or tracking SDKs. We do not track usage patterns, session lengths, or any behavioural data.

7. Subscription

Dine & Divide offers an optional auto-renewing subscription (currently £1.99/month, with a 7-day free trial) to unlock full functionality. Subscriptions are purchased and managed entirely through Apple's App Store. We do not process payment information directly — your payment details are handled by Apple and governed by the Apple Privacy Policy. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your iPhone's Settings under your Apple ID.

8. Children's Privacy

The app does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. It contains no account creation or social features. The subscription described above is an Apple App Store purchase — Apple's own age verification and parental controls apply.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
